In my view, this luau does the best job - even better than (dare I say it?) the world-famous Old Lahaina Luau - of making you feel like you've been transported to an earlier, unspoiled Hawaii. That said, if your idea of a perfect luau is on the beach at sunset, look elsewhere."

King Kamehameha II is credited with originating the luau in 1819, when he hosted the first feast that abolished the ancient Hawaiian practice of men and women eating their meals apart. This lavish celebration where the King ate with women was a symbolic act which ended the ancient Hawaiian religious tabus, and was accompanied by traditional dancing and demonstrations of skill.
