Mendes Ranch
The Mendes family has owned and operated the Mendes ranch on the rugged cliffsides overlooking Maui's north shore since Manuel "Red" Mendes brought his family here from Portugal to begin homesteading here in 1940, and their paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) roots run deep. Now grown to 3000 acres and 300 head of cattle strong, the Mendes Ranch is a real working cattle ranch set down amidst Maui's most spectacular views--rainforests, waterfalls, Hawaiian taro patches, stately plantation homes, lush valleys, dusty pastures of grazing cattle, and the crystal blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. But the real fun is the characters you'll meet who work the cattle ranch and lead the rides, real cowboys through and through. They're not afraid to let you run your horse if they think you know what you're doing, but they take protective good care of the tenderfoots too. They might tease you some too, so pack your sense of humor as well as your camera.
Offered: Monday through Saturday. Closed on Sundays.
