Horseback Riding
Maybe horses aren't the first thing that come to mind when you think about your Maui vacation, but think again! Hawaiian cowboys, or paniolos as they are called, actually predate the American cowboy by about 50 years! Maui has a rich paniolo history, and many local people strongly identify with the aesthetic of the Old West, Maui Style. The annual Makawao Rodeo is a seriously well-attended event, with lots of enthusiastic local participation. In short, we're horse people, and the combination of a bunch of horse people and Maui's diverse and amazing natural beauty makes horseback riding on Maui an all fired thrill of a lifetime. You're darn tootin'.

A Tip From Your Concierge

Hey there, pardner. If you're inexperienced on horseback, or just out of practice, consider a two-hour horseback ride. Depending on your physical condition and how much recent horse-time you've logged, the longer four to six hour trips might put you out of commission for the next day. That's okay if you were planning to sit on the beach anyway, but not so fun if you've got a surf lesson!
